Should I get my set fixed or should I buy a new one?

Let's start out by doing a little myth busting about television repair.

Myth #1:"I shouldn't get it fixed, it's old. It will probably just break again."
The truth is that most televisions have specific "weak links" in their original design. It's the nature of electronic architecture for design flaws to become evident in the years following production. Manufacturers regularly put out service updates defining the nature of these "weak links" and what specific steps should be taken to accurately fix the problem so that the failure does not occur again.
We see the same sets with the same problems from different customers over and over again. Once the repair is completed, most customers report that the unit performed just as it should for years of use.
Myth #2:"Television repair is prohibitively expensive."
The typical repair of a 27" TV is only $75.00.  Big Screen projection sets typically repair from $200.00 to $400.00.
36" sets are usually repaired for around $150.00.  The cost of repairing a failure in a television is generally FAR less then the cost of replacing the set.
Myth #3:"New is better then old."
Television manufacturing is just like any other industry. The general focus is to produce the same set for less money. We see far more failures sooner in newer sets then we saw in older sets. Fast production methods result in a television that can be assembled and sold for less but in no way does it improve on or even maintain the quality of the units previously produced.
New sets offer bells and whistles that older sets did not, that is the singular reason why we sell new televisions as well as repair older ones. If you need inputs such as Component, DVI or HDMI that your television does not have, it's time to look into replacing it with a newer model. Those considerations should always be explored before repairing your existing set or replacing it with a new one.

HomeRepair Service

Here at Ableman TV we have been in business for 14 years and have a fully stocked diagnostic and repair center. Among a host of equipment at our disposal, we have spared no expense in equipping ourselves with a comprehensive line of State-of-the-Art Sencore Diagnostic and Calibration equipment. There is no guess work here. Years of experience coupled with the right tools for the job make for fast and effective repairs.
Because we stock a substantial in-store parts inventory, our turn around times on job are usually very short. A large number of our repairs are done without having to order out for parts and many are returned to the customer the same day that they are brought in. It's not uncommon for us to repair televisions while our customers wait. We track trends in repairs very closely so that when we find ourselves needing multiples of a non-inventoried part, we can quickly add it to stock on hand.
Of course, we do not stock every part for every TV, VCR, DVD player and Stereo out there. No one could do that. But we do maintain a expansive and dependable supply chain for parts acquisition and generally receive what we need within 3-5 days of ordering. No one likes to be without their TV for long and with that in mind, we do our best to get it back to you as soon as possible.
When you call us for In-Home Service, we do our home work before we show up at your door. We will have researched your set and thoroughly prepared ourselves with the necessary parts and equipment to repair your TV. If, after our research into your problem, we feel that we do not have all of the necessary parts available, we will call you and inform you of the potential problem. Depending on the nature of the problem, we may suggest that we pick up the set and bring it into the shop, ask to delay the service call or refer you to another shop. But we will not show up at your house unprepared and hand you a bill for a Service Minimum.
Not to say that all repairs can be done In-Home. The fact is that that just doesn't happen. Some failures can be so extensive that In-Home service just is not reasonable. Some failures cannot be pinpointed to an individual component but rather encompass entire circuits and a range of parts. Some repairs require more time then anyone is willing to host a service tech in their home for. It's not unknown that In-Home service becomes "Load it in the Van and take it back to the shop" service. A person should always be prepared for that possibility when requesting service outside the shop. If that does become the case, pick-up and delivery back to you are included at no additional charge. We are not going to bill you for anything that you were unprepared for when you ask us out to your home.
